Will Insurance cover my mommy makeover?
At the office of Dr. Rady Rahban, our priority is helping patients get the care they want and deserve. From a financial standpoint, this means helping patients through insurance or financing options. Our office has plenty of experience with every variety of patient, giving us the knowledge and ability to navigate the complex world of finance and insurance.
Because a Mommy Makeover is an elective cosmetic procedure, it is rarely covered by insurance. There are, however, conditions that may be considered medically necessary that may be covered by insurance. These are:
Umbilical hernia
A condition in which a portion of the intra-abdominal contents pokes through a hole in the abdominal muscles near the belly button. This is quite common after giving birth, as the muscles are weakened from the pregnancy.
This is different than rectus diastasis. Rectus diastasis is characterized by a separation of the abdominal muscles. There is no hole in rectus diastasis and it is often not covered by insurance. Most women in need of a tummy tuck have rectus diastasis.
Large breasts
Also known as macromastia, causing back and neck pain or rashes under the breasts. In such a case, breast reduction may be covered by insurance. This is different than a breast lift, in which no breast tissue is removed.
Abdominal pannus
This is a condition in which there is excessive loose skin on the lower abdomen. The skin has become excessive enough where it folds over itself significantly, almost like an apron. Pannus can cause significant symptoms, such as a rash, irritation or infection. The treatment is a panniculectomy or excision of the pannus, which may be covered by your insurance.
In addition to our expertise in getting the insurance coverage you need, we also offer a variety of financing options. If you desire cosmetic improvement, let our team of experts guide you through the process. We are determined to help every patient get the care she deserves.
